Week 5 TD 1 – Descriptive Statistics

Complete a PICO(T) search on bicycle safety. What does the research say about this issue? Select one of the articles from your search. Identify the descriptive statistics. Is anything missing? To what extent are minorities included in the study (or is that demographic information available?)? How does the descriptive data help you understand the research?

Week 5 TD 2 – Inferential Statistics

Describe the inferential tests that were used (e.g., t-tests and chi-squares). Given the p-values related to the tests, how do you interpret the results? Are statistically significant findings also clinically significant? What are the recommendations, based on this paper? Share some alternate explanations (mediating or intervening variables) for the results of the study.

Telemedicine: Benefits and Challanges

Telemedicine can be extremely beneficial for people living in isolated regions and is currently being applied in virtually all medical domains. To address major health issues related to affordability, access, and quality of care, healthcare providers need to consider telemedicine as a reliable option when access to traditional medicine is difficult and out of reach. Healthcare providers, however, must consider legal and ethical issues when planning, designing, and implementing telemedicine. Key among these issues are those of patient confidentiality, privacy, data security, and transmission.

• How does telemedicine differ from the traditional medicine?
• What are other legal or ethical issues involved in telemedicine?
• Which of these issues, in your opinion, will be the most difficult to address?
• What technologies or infrastructure are necessary for the successful practice of telemedicine?
• What obstacles can prevent healthcare providers from seeing telemedicine as a reliable option, even when access to traditional medicine is difficult or out of reach?

Drawing on course readings or outside scholarly sources, support your answer with references, examples, and clear rationales.

In this course, you will progressively work on a system implementation process in six stages:

• Week 1: System planning
• Week 2: System analysis
• Week 3: System selection
• Week 4: System implementation
• Week 5: User training and system mainten

You can use Internet resources, peer-reviewed journals, and reputable, published articles, and you may interview an executive of a healthcare facility that has implemented an electronic medical record system/electronic health record system or similar system to describe the six implementation steps.

In this week you will start with system planning complete a 3–5-page executive summary while considering the following components:

• Describe a fictional healthcare organization: type, size of staff, and amount and type of patients it is able to serve.
• Establish the need for a system.
• Set achievable goals and objectives.
• Allocate a budget.
• Identify a project manager (a fictitious name and title) and project team (fictitious names and titles).
• Determine whether to build in-house or acquire from outside, and support your decision with reasoning.
• Set a timeline for system implementation or project completion.

You have just been promoted from front-line supervisor to be one of the firm’s senior managers. During your business education, you learned that the primary role of a manager is to make good decisions. As a supervisor, you had frequently been making routine decisions, but you realize that decision making for the overall company can and will have far greater impact on the company and its employees.

Your boss, the chief executive officer (CEO), realizes that you do not have much practice in this higher level, decision-making process and has asked you to write a memo describing your understanding of how to make important decisions.

Your memo should address the following questions:

·         Describe at least 3 criteria that would determine whether the manager is making good decisions. What should be done to better assure that you are making a good decision?

·         Given the importance of proper assumptions, your boss asked you to assess the accuracy of certain business assumptions and what could you do to test or confirm the credibility of them. The following were major assumptions for each firm: 

·         An automobile manufacturer’s assumption that the demand for SUVs would continue because gas prices would continue to rise 

·         An airline’s assumption that there was a need for an airline that provided no added amenities.

Assignment, Effective Approaches in Leadership and Management (Benchmark Assessment)

In this assignment, you will be writing a 1,000-1,250-word essay describing the differing approaches of nursing leaders and managers to issues in practice. To complete this assignment, do the following:

1. Critique a TV or radio commercial, an Internet advertisement, or a print advertisement from a nonprofessional journal/magazine related to an FDA-regulated prescription drug for a gastrointestinal disorder.
2. Critique a TV or radio commercial, an Internet advertisement, or a print advertisement from a nonprofessional journal/magazine related to a non-FDA-regulated over-the-counter medication/herbal for a gastrointestinal (GI) disorder.

Include a description of the pathophysiology of the GI disorder and how the medication/herbal alters that pathophysiology.

Compare and contrast the two commercials, including their stated use of medication/herbal, patient safety issues, analysis of company claims for any drug benefits. Substantiate your thoughts and ideas with evidence-based research/articles.
