Unit 5 Discussion Board 2
Deliverable Length: 150-500 words (not including references)
Details:

The Discussion Board (DB) is part of the core of online learning. Classroom discussion in an online environment requires the active participation of students and the instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Every student is expected to create an original response to the open-ended DB question as well as engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the week. At the end of each unit, DB participation will be assessed based on both level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion.

At a minimum, each student will be expected to post an original and thoughtful response to the DB question and contribute to the weekly dialogue by responding to at least two other posts from students. The first contribution must be posted before midnight (Central Time) on Wednesday of each week. Two additional responses are required after Wednesday of each week. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often, as that is the primary way the university tracks class attendance and participation.

The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit.

Research a contemporary artist on the Art 21 PBS Web site. See the Resource List for this unit, for access to the Web site.

Write 150–500 words (not including references) that cover the following:

  • Brief artist biography
  • Explain the artist’s overall “theme” or interests.
  • Describe and evaluate one of the artist’s works: title, material, size, year completed, subject matter, content, style.
  • Include an image of the artwork you are describing.
  • What is the possible meaning of the work? What is the artist trying to say?
  • Does the work of art reveal any contemporary (current) concerns or interests? How is this demonstrated?

Peer responses can elaborate on the following topics:

  • Look at the image that your peer has selected. Discuss the meaning of the work: Do you think he or she interpreted the artist’s message well? What do you think the artist trying to say?
  • What artist(s) or style do you think the artist uses for inspiration?
  • Look at other works of art by the same artist. Which one would you have picked and why?

When researching the Internet for addition resources, use reliable/credible sites. Begin with sites suggested in the Course Materials Reference List for each unit. Retail sites and Wikipedia are not considered reliable resources. All writing must be in your own words. Do not cut and paste information from the Web site.

You are required to comply with APA style format for quotations, internal citations, and a reference list. In addition, include the URL for the artwork you chose at the end of the paper. For additional information and resources on APA, visit the APA section of the Library, available under “Library Features.”

A. Questions for weekly discussions and conversations (not part of the required Discussion Board assignment)

These questions can serve as the starting point for your discussions during the week. They are “thought starters,” so that you can explore some ideas associated with the discussion board and unit topics. Answers are not required, and should not be submitted with your required assignment. Answers are not graded.

1. How would you imagine cultures and artistic creations changing during World War II?

2. How has art changed with the use of computers and the internet?

B. Required Discussion Board assignment.

  • Discuss a minimum of two reasons why Jackson Pollock’s style of painting, as exemplified by Convergence, is considered an important, innovative development in the history of painting. To see this painting, locate it in the unit’s Resource List.
  • Imagine that you are a defense attorney for this work of art. Support your argument with research.
  • Establish a very strong “argument” by considering the artist’s unique technique, what influenced him to create work like Convergence, and how this work fits into its specific era and specific art movement.

When researching the Internet for addition resources, use reliable/credible sites. Retail sites and Wikipedia are not considered reliable resources. All writing must be in your own words. Do not cut and paste information from the Web site.

You are required to comply with APA style format for internal citation and a reference list. For additional information and resources on APA, visit the APA section of the Library, available under “Library Features.”

Peer Responses can elaborate on the following topics:

  • Look at the images that your peer has selected. Do you think he or she interpreted the artist’s message well? What do you think the artist trying to say?
  • Having read your peer’s argument about Jackson Pollock’s work and looked at the images he or she selected; do you agree or disagree with your peer’s position?
  • What additional points can you add to the argument?

In your own words, please post a response to the Discussion Board and comment on other postings. You will be graded on the quality of your postings.

Week 5

Week 5: Perception Paper Assignment & Rubric!

Week 5 Perception Paper Assignment

In Week 4, you printed out a photo, showed it to others, and collected their perceptions about the photo. Then you filled out a worksheet in which you developed an introduction and outline for this week’s application. You also may have filled out the Perception Analysis Grid (PAG) that helped you categorize your observers’ perceptions. This week, you will write a formal essay using the introduction, outline, and perhaps the grid that you completed last week. In this paper you will compare and contrast your observers’ perceptions and analyze what factors might lead to them.

To prepare for this Application:

&αμπ;νβσπ;Review your completed “Week 4 Assignment Worksheet” that your instructor graded and provided comments in and suggestions for how to use the parts of the worksheet to complete the paper for this week. That graded worksheet will be available in your personal grade center under the Week 4 Assignment area. Be sure to include any changes your instructor has suggested to the introduction and outline components in your paper. But you do NOT need to redo the worksheet, just incorportate the changes into the paper.

&αμπ;νβσπ;Refer again to “ Steps in the Process of Forming Perceptions” on pages 68–83 (Chapter 3) of the course text, Communication in a Changing World, for guidance.

&αμπ;νβσπ;Read the Week 5 Application Rubric posted below. This will help you make sure you have included all requirements in your paper. This is what your instructor will use to grade your paper.

To complete this Application:

Write a paper that is at least 750 words in length( 3 pages double-spaced) in which you do the following:

1. Include the corrected introduction and preview of main points from the Week 4 Worksheet.

2. Using the information from Section 2 (Main Point #1) in the Week 4 Worksheet, provide a paragraph where you explain the three steps of the perception process. Be sure to define each step and credit the textbook with any information you use. You should also give an example of each step. This paragraph should be developed further from the Main Point #1 section in the Week 4 Worksheet. Thus, you should NOT just cut and paste from the week 4 worksheet.

3. Using the information from Section 2 (Main Point #2) in the Week 4 Worksheet, describe your observers (age, gender, relationship to you, work, education, your own perception of their outlook on life, etc.) and explain how each observer’s background might affect his or her perception of the world. This paragraph should be developed further from the Main Point #2 section in the Week 4 WorksheetThus, you should NOT just cut and paste from the week 4 worksheet.

4. Using the information from Section 2 (Main Point #3) in the Week 4 Worksheetanalyze your observers’n t descriptions of the photo. In this analysis:

a) Apply at least 3 terms (one term from each step of the perception process, and make sure one term for each observer) from Section 2 (Main Point #3) of the week 4 Worksheet. These can also be found in Chapter 3 in the textbook.

b) Provide an example for each term from among the words your observers chose to describe the photograph.

c) As you apply an example to each term, explain why you chose to apply that term from the book. Do this by describing what factors about your observers’ backgrounds may have led them to choose a certain word to describe the photo; and thus, led you to determine that a certain term from the book would apply to that example.

d) Remember to properly apply each term as described in the “How to Apply Terms” document and credit the textbook.

This paragraph should be developed further from the Main Point #3 section in the Week 4 Worksheet and even more terms can be applied with more description of your observers’ perceptions of the photo. Thus, you should NOT just cut and paste from the week 4 worksheet.

5. Remember to support your statements with clear examples.

6. Please submit this assignment by the end of Day 7 of Week 5 to the Week 5 Assignment Turnitin submission link.

7. Run grammar and spell check or submit this paper to Grammarly and then correct it before submitting it for grading.

business final

You began your Final Project in Unit 5. Now based on your graded and returned outline from Unit 5, you will use this outline to guide your final 3 to 4 page paper (not including the title and references page) due in this unit.

The European Union Scientific Committee on Food conducted a study last year, and found that while caffeine levels in energy drinks were safe, more studies were needed to assess the dangers of taurine and glucuronolactone.

Ravi and Keith have been contacted by a French beverage firm seeking a joint venture with Zip-6 in that country. Since sales of rival Red Bull, according to Nordqvist (2004 ), has been banned in France because of health concerns with two of its ingredients, taurine and glucuronolactone; Ravi is viewing this proposed joint venture with great interest since Zip-6 does not contain these questionable ingredients. Nils noted that France is a member of theEuropean Union (EU) and sees this as possibly the next major market for the company. A presence in France would give Zip-6 access to all EU countries. This seems particularly promising since France, Denmark, and Norway (all EU countries) have banned the sales of Red Bull within their borders. For your Final Project, you are asked to assume the role of a Zip-6 analyst that has been assigned the task of researching the French beverage market and the European Union trade rules and to prepare the following:

Using the information you gained from your research in part 1 as a starting point, and any additional information you find now in Unit 9, respond to the following checklist items:

Checklist:

  • Background of European Union Trade Policies including the history of the European Union, political, economic, and cultural factors.
  • Your assessment of the pros and cons of Zip-6’s involvement in this venture and your final recommendations.

Include: Pros and Cons on entry strategy

Write a 3 to 4 page paper with additional title and references page in APA format

After reading about the IMF, journal your thoughts about the work of the IMF. Is it something new to you? Has its mission grown beyond merely imposing discipline on global currencies? Can you speculate what the world might be like for business without an organization like the IMF? Did anything you discovered in this examination of the IMF surprise you?

Be sure to watch the short videos in each section that describes this organization and its work. After visiting the IMF website, Journal your thoughts about what you viewed and heard on this site.
